Dr. David Mason’s lifelong connection to animals began on a dairy farm in Northern England, cultivating a deep appreciation for their care. He earned his veterinary degree with honors from the prestigious Royal Veterinary College, University of London, and later completed a rotating internship at Kansas State University.
Dr. Mason served as a research associate at the renowned JD Wheat Veterinary Orthopedic Research Laboratory at UC Davis, contributing to the development of the Sliding Humeral Osteotomy (SHO) procedure. His passion for orthopedic innovation led him to Iowa State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital for a small animal surgical residency, where he achieved board certification in orthopedic surgery.
After relocating to Las Vegas, Dr. Mason co-founded one of the busiest specialty and emergency veterinary hospitals in the U.S. Now, he’s founded Veterinary Bone and Joint Specialists, a boutique hospital dedicated exclusively to pets’ orthopedic needs. This facility offers advanced diagnostics, treatment options, and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr. Mason specializes in orthopedic surgery, with expertise in joint replacement, minimally invasive fracture repair, and arthroscopic surgery for elbow dysplasia. He is also passionate about regenerative medicine, exploring stem cells and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as alternatives or adjuncts to traditional treatments.
His work has been featured in journals like Veterinary Surgery and the American Journal of Veterinary Research. He also educates others through continuing education lectures nationally and internationally.
Dr. Mason’s family, including his wife Rachel, a board-certified plastic surgeon, their children Estelle and Jackson, and their 10-year-old cockapoo, Elsa, are integral to his life. They enjoy outdoor activities like golfing and fly fishing, with Elsa accompanying them on their adventures.
